Kura So i got into contact a lovely lady today who wanted a tortoise and her bearded dragons rehomed. We decided on a trade and tomorrow evening two beardies will arrive and Kura will be rehomed. The lady has a big allotment at her back gate where Kura can roam during the nice days and already keeps reptiles so knows what she’s doing. In return i get two 18 month old bearded dragons and what appears to be a custom made 4ft 7 vivarium with all their kit. Kura will be much happier and thats what counts :) Any tips re. the dragons will be appreciated. Kura So i’ve been thinking long and hard about Kura lately. She is clearly not happy at the moment and despite my best efforts she is not getting any happier. She wants and needs to be somewhere she has access to a garden and space to roam, rather than just a tortoise table and a living room floor. She has never been outside and I’ve very sadly decided it is time for me to swallow my pride and re-home her. I have literally always wanted a tortoise and i was so happy that i finally had the finances and space in my room to get one that i overlooked completely how happy she would be with me. I know she will have a good long life with me, but it wouldn’t be a fulfilling one. I also know my circumstances may change and i may move to a place with a garden in the future, but i can’t compromise her welfare and happiness for my own selfish gain, even if only for a few months. Kura is a lovely little tortoise who deserves the best in life.  Not all is sad though, i can use this opportunity to potentially locate a suitable pet that doesn’t hold the same demands as Kura, and will have one of the best lives with me. Though it will still be sad to see Kura leave.

How to Blue-Peter Yourself a Tortoise Table

Step 1: Take one set of shelves and lay them on their back then line the inside with self adhesive tiles from poundland. Put the pegs used to hold the shelves in place along the top and lay the shelves over them to serve as a darker area.

Step 2: Seal with animal-safe sealant. Also from poundland. 

Step 3: Line with poundland tarpaulin for ease of cleaning and add organic topsoil from homebase, aspen for under the basking lamp (it gets warmer than soil), then add stuff to climb on. Also, mostly from poundland. Sample slate and terracotta tiles are free if you pretend you want a kitchen re-done and boxes come free with the stuff you ordered on ebay. An upturned washing up bowl with a hole cut in serves as a large hide. Safe cheap plants from wilko’s add decor and allow grazing. Lastly add the heat source and the UVB+A lights via ebay and bobs your uncle.

Step 3.5: Get to know the lady who serves in poundland so well that you are now practically on first name basis and have chats about how she’ll get a little bonus if she sells all the chocolates by her till. Deny chocolates and say you are penniless from buying all this poundland crap.

Step 4: Add tortoise. Preferably a semi-retarded, daredevil, messy one that had to be rehomed because it was bullied and now insists on launching itself off everything to make you have a heart attack.

I would like to introduce to you the newest member of the Rush-Morgan household. She has yet to be named but is super friendly! If you squint, one of the markings on the center of her back kinda looks like the batman logo :D

Edit: I’m thinking of Kura-Kura which is Malay for tortoise :)
